  1. There's brand new stuff in the Kurzgesagt Merch Shop. Check it out here: shop.kurzgesagt.org

  2. GMO food is going to become non-optional sooner rather than later. As global climate change continues, we will need to start designing our crops to adapt to these very different climates than what we traditionally use. Potatoes that support micro-environments to replenish the soil nutrients they use, watermelons resistant to drought, wheat resistant to flooding, heat resistant broccoli, cold resistant peppers, and so on. As regional climates change, crops traditionally grown in those areas will fail and famine will follow. Our options are to either stop or substantially slow global climate change (which isn't happening any time soon) or develop crops appropriate for these new climates.

One of these things is a lot more likely to happen than the other.

  3. The truth is that GMOs are a dirty business, the products created are a result of trial and error. Tens of thousands of random gene mutations are created before a single beneficial trait can be identified.

  4. So many people just see "GMO" on a box and think "Oh my goodness. I've heard that's bad. I don't know what it means, but I've heard it's bad. Better take the Non-GMO one instead, whatever that means."

  5. I learn so much with these 10-15min videos 10 times of what I learn in shool (which is sad) and so I just want to say thank you for giving us this knowledge

  6. this is a great video and it shows how there are always solutions to problems and are sometimes good for the environement and us at the same time!!!

  7. This was pretty one sided. I hoped for a non biased viewpoint however it was pretty clear that the person behind this video strongly believes in benefits of GMOs

  8. it breaks the balance of nature, Causing chain reactions we can't even begin to imagine. It's literally defying life by making seedless fruits

  9. So what other methods are being suggested for weed control?
GMO crops result in less use of less toxic herbicides. So a good thing.

  10. Why gmo are made well because developed countries like US and countries of Europe can take two crops in a year and their soil is also a third class thats why they use chemical manure and insecticide and pesticide to stop all organisms from destroying it. I don't think hmm is good. The world's richest countries are playing with people's health of all over the world

  11. GMO has no real downsides and only upsides. The people advocating against GMO are plain uneducated.

  12. I mean like if we could make trees with a extremely shortened youth so then they would grow up to a adult in a week would stop deforestation

  13. Its not the GMO crops that are not healthy, its the herbicides and pesticides which must be sprayed on the GMO crops before they reach the market. Those pesticides contain glyphosate which harm us in the long run (it has its side-effects on human health as well). Also, a farmer can't get a following crop from the seeds. so comes the added cost of having to buy more GM seeds . These GMO crops require GMO fertilizers and pesticides, which are costly to Third World farmers as in India. This is big agriculture like Monsanto overtaking our food supplies at the cost of small farming outfits…and a good organic healthy product.

  14. From what I heard there are cases of bees dying because they could not pollinate gmo plants, also some types of flies kept dying because they were usually relying on eating from usual plants and gmo could not. The problem with gmo is that animals can't benefit from gmo, and I think gm plants are a terrible idea. The population of our planet is large so instead of feeding more people you should prevent new people from being born.

  16. I had to explain and debate about GMOs in my biology class in 2013, in a countryside school, in Chile, when I finished the presentation saying basically the conclusion of this video (but with uglier words) my conservative teacher wanted to kill me and evaluated me really bad, I'd like to see her again and throw this video on her face :))

  17. I would like to make a point about Terminator-Seeds: These Seeds would actually change nothing. You would buy new seeds every year anyway, and thats not new. No one uses the harvested seeds in the next year. They would start to degenerate really fast, damaging the yield. So you buy the "High-Power" Seeds anyway. Not that new in agriculture. 😉 (Yes, I know, that there is nothing like a degeneration in terms of evolution 😛 )
